About me

Hello there! I am Spyros and I love taking photos. I was born and raised in Athens, Greece but I have been based in Amsterdam, Netherlands for the last years. I travel a lot so you may find me in every corner of the world.

Background & History

I got my first camera back in 2013 when I travelled abroad for the very first time with the purpose to document my trip. This first camera had a smaller sensor and probably worse performance than a today’s smartphone, but it had manual controls which allowed me to master the technical aspect of photography from the very beginning. As I kept travelling the world my camera always stayed with me and now it has been more than a decade since I turned an obsession into a routine and a hobby into a life goal.

Favorite Photography Themes

Even though I love all kinds of outdoor photography, street photography is the one that has constantly managed to keep me engaged and intrigued. I’m especially keep on exploring how light and color intertwine during the day, and to recreate cinematic, vibrant atmospheres at night. I have worked with multiple focal lengths but as my photography evolves the ones that I am currently using the most is 35mm and 28mm. I am currently drawn into working with a bigger canvas, building more complex compositions and coming closer for getting a better glimpse on emotions, reactions and life.

Why Street Photography?

I love street photography because it allows me to reflect and analyze, to cut the noise around me and to focus on both movement and stillness at the same time. Through street photography I can share something about the world that no one else can…my own perspective.

  • In the social media you will find me under the nickname dumspyrospero. It is wordplay of the latin phrase “dum spiro spero” which translates to “while I breathe, I hope”. As a person that has both struggled with and been intrigued by purpose and the meaning of life it is something that deeply resonates with me. That plus the fact that it also rhymes with my name!
